Leeds Libraries are delighted to welcome two outstanding graphic‑novel creators from Yorkshire for a special author event celebrating comics, illustration, and non‑fiction storytelling.

Kristyna Baczynski is an illustrator, comic book artist, and author who grew up in the Pennines of Yorkshire, in a family from the Carpathians of Ukraine. The author of the graphic novels Retrograde Orbit and Another Realm, she is based in Leeds.

She will be joined by Darryl Cunningham, the award-winning author of Supercrash: How to Hijack the Global Economy, Graphic Science; The Age of Selfishness: Ayn Rand, Morality, and the Financial Crisis; Putin’s Russia: The Rise of a Dictator; and Billionaires, which won the Best Graphic Nonfiction category in the Broken Frontier Awards 2019. In 2015, he was one of thirty world-renowned photographers, painters, sculptors, writers, filmmakers, and musicians invited to contribute to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Art of Saving a Life project to promote vaccination in the developing world. He was awarded an Honorary Degree of Master of Arts from Leeds Arts University. He lives in Wakefield, Yorkshire, in the United Kingdom.

Together, Kristyna and Darryl will discuss their work, creative processes, and the power of graphic storytelling to explore personal identity, politics, science, and society.

Kristyna’s new book is ANOTHER REALM. Darryl latest book is JOHN OF THE NIGHT.

We've got another exciting signing event to announce in partnership with the incredible comics festival, Thought Bubble! Ahead of his appearance in Harrogate on the weekend, the artist Raúl Allén, will be in the shop signing on Wednesday 11th November 2026, from 6-7pm, to celebrate the recently released Doctor Strange: Endless Nightmare.

We can't believe our luck with this one! Three incredible artists from North America will be heading to the country to table at the amazing Thought Bubble festival over the weekend (Saturday 14th November - Sunday 15th November). We've teamed up with our pals at Thought Bubble, to get the triple threat into the shop for a signing before they travel up to Harrogate. We'll be joined by Adam de Souza, Karl Stevens and Mahdi Khene on Thursday 12th November 2026, from 6-7pm.

Adam de Souza's award winning comic strip, Blind Alley, celebrates its 5th anniversary this year and we're thrilled to be able to celebrate this with Adam. Blind Alley is incredibly popular online and indeed always flies of our small press shelves. We'll have copies of the entire series, including the recently released fourth issue, which you can pre-order from our website by clicking the link here. We'll also have Adam's other work like Mutt Mag and The Gulf too!

Karl Stevens will be celebrating the release of his brand new comic, Pepper, the standalone sequel to his previous graphic memoir following housecat Penny. Karl's beautiful watercoloured drawings, immersive stories and hilarious humour were a delight to read in Penny. We can't wait to read the sequel! Mahdi Khene created the indie comics publishing house, Zuperhero Comics, and has been busy creating some exceptional comics within this shared universe. Highly inventive, awesome artwork and an absolute blast to read every time. It's no suprise that titles like Bootleg Spider-Man and Light Man never last long on our shelves.

Thought Bubble is once again teaming up with Diamond Comics to give away free all ages graphic novels and comics to everyone! Libraries all over Leeds are participating, so join us on Friday 13 November and help us to achieve our aim to get everyone reading more!
