Dr Miriam Kent leads this interactive workshop, providing an exploratory space for comics creators to contribute to a critical dialogue about the ongoing impact of AI on the comics industry. The workshop takes as its starting point the validity of emotional responses to AI technology and will explore these through creative methods. While celebrating creative labour in the comics industry, we will address the ethical and commercial challenges posed by AI technologies.
Participants are invited to reflect on the relationship between comics and AI, explore solutions to ongoing problems with copyright and authorship, and collectively envision a future where creativity thrives. It will include creative exercises to foster a sense of hope and explore ways to advocate for the value of creativity in comics.
No AI tools will be used. All comics creators (including but not limited to writers and artists) are welcome.
Dr Miriam Kent is a Lecturer in Film and Media at the University of Leeds.
