For general enquiries, please send us an email via email@example.com.
While there is no theme for this year’s competition, we need your story to be suitable for all ages. Your story can be told with text and illustrations, or by imagery alone, and may also use photography if desired.
Entries must be a one page A3 comic book story with a minimum of six panels, the page itself must contain the story’s title and the creator/s’ names. The completed page itself must be A3 in size (with a 3mm bleed), portrait aspect, with CMYK colours at 300dpi.
Entries can be with or without words, in black and white or colour. If words are used, only entries in English will be accepted, unless your story involves a made-up fantasy language, in which case go wild!
All submitted entries must be accompanied by an application form.
Finished work can be submitted as a hard copy and sent to Thought Bubble at Travelling Man, 32 Central Rd, Leeds, LS1 6DE, or you can submit your entry digitally directly via firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please note: all entries submitted digitally should be portrait format, A3 page in size, to the specifications above.
The judges will be looking for new ideas and innovation, and the competition seeks to emphasize the fact that entries don’t have to be highly skilled and technically finished pieces – art is learning, and comics are art!
The judging panel will select two runners-up and one winning entry from each age group, and the overall winner in each category will receive a selection of comic books and graphic novels worth £200 from Travelling Man and Diamond Comics.
All 6 winning entries will receive the main prize of seeing their work published in a comic that will be published globally by Image Comics in 2018. This will also see the winners’ work published alongside established high-profile artists and writers, who have offered to contribute new work without charge, in order to support the competition project and the charity Barnardos. The publication itself will devote 4-6 pages to the winners and promoting new and emerging creative talent in the UK.
The winners will be announced at the 11th Thought Bubble comic book convention in Leeds City Centre, time and date TBC, as well as on the official Thought Bubble site and through a related press release.
